# Email notifications

Get an email for every new submission, choose who receives it, and customize the subject and sender name.

Every form emails you when a new submission arrives. It is on by default for new forms. Configure it in the form's **Settings**, **Email** section.

## What the email contains

* The subject, which is `New submission: {{form.name}}` unless you change it.
* Every answer, labeled with the field's **Label** from the form builder.
* A **View in nisuform** link that opens the submission in your inbox.
* The time it was received.

When the submission includes an email address, the notification's **Reply-To** is set to it. Press reply in your email app to answer the person who filled in the form. Nisuform uses the form's first **Email** field, or the first answer that looks like an email address when the form has no email field.

Uploaded files are not attached. Open the submission to download them.

## Who receives it

By default, notifications go to the account email of the team's owner. On Pro, enter any address in **Send to**, such as a shared inbox like `team@example.com`. Leave it empty to go back to the owner's email.

To reach several people, use a group address or forward from your email app, or connect [Slack, Discord or Telegram](/docs/integrations) so the whole team sees each submission.

## Sender name

Notifications come from Nisuform's sending address with the sender name `nisuform`. On Pro, change **Sender name** to something like `Acme Website` so notifications are easy to spot and filter. The sending address itself doesn't change.

## Subject

Change **Subject** on any plan. Two kinds of placeholders are filled in for each submission:

| Placeholder       | Becomes                                                    |
| ----------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
| `{{form.name}}`   | The form's name.                                           |
| `{{field.email}}` | The answer to the field named `email`. Use any field name. |

The dashboard shows the available placeholders as chips under the Subject box. Select one to insert it. For example:

```text
{{form.name}}: {{field.name}} ({{field.email}})
```

A placeholder for a field that wasn't answered is left as it is. Line breaks are removed and the subject is cut at 250 characters.

## When notifications are sent

| Submission                                                    | Email notification |
| ------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------ |
| Accepted submission                                           | Sent               |
| Test submission from the dashboard | Sent |
| Spam folder                                                   | Not sent           |
| Dropped as a bot, blocked, rejected or over the monthly limit | Not sent |

Moving a submission out of the spam folder doesn't send a notification.

Emails usually arrive within seconds. If sending fails for a temporary reason, Nisuform keeps retrying for about two hours.

## Turn notifications off

Turn off **Email me new submissions** to stop emails for one form. Submissions are still stored, and integrations still run.

## Emails about your account

Nisuform also sends two summaries to team owners:

* **Weekly digest**: every Monday at 09:00 UTC, the number of submissions your forms received in the past week. It is only sent when there were submissions.
* **Missed leads**: on the first of each month, Free teams that hit their monthly limit get the number of submissions their forms turned away.

## Not getting emails?

* Check your spam or junk folder, and add Nisuform's sending address to your contacts.
* Check that **Email me new submissions** is on and **Send to** is the address you expect.
* Check the form's **Spam** folder in the inbox. Spam doesn't send notifications.
* Send a test from the **Setup** tab. If the test arrives, the problem is with the submissions from your site. See [Troubleshooting](/docs/reference/troubleshooting).
