# Thank-you page and redirects

Choose what visitors see after they submit, from the default thank-you page to your own message or a redirect to your site.

What visitors see depends on how the form was sent.

| How the form was sent | What happens after a successful submit |
| ------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Plain HTML form, or the embed with JavaScript off | The browser shows the Nisuform thank-you page, your own message, or goes to your redirect URL. |
| The styled embed | The form is replaced by its **Success message** from the builder, or the browser goes to your redirect URL. |
| Your own `fetch` code | Your code gets JSON and decides what to show. It is never redirected. |

## Choose what happens after submit

Open **Settings**, **Submissions**, **After submit**:

* **Thank-you page**: the default Nisuform page. It says "Thanks!" and "Your submission has been received." and links back to the page the visitor came from. On the Free plan it also shows a small Nisuform banner at the bottom.
* **Custom message** (Pro): the same page with your own **Title** and **Message**.
* **Redirect** (Pro): the browser goes straight to your **Redirect URL**, such as `https://example.com/thanks`, with a `303` redirect.

A redirect URL must be a full `http://` or `https://` URL. Many sites use it to show their own thank-you page, count conversions in analytics, or run a tracking pixel.

## Redirect per submission

On Pro, a form can choose its destination on each submit with a `_redirect` field. It overrides the form's setting for that submission:

```html
<input type="hidden" name="_redirect" value="https://example.com/thanks?plan=team">
```

The URL must be on the same site as the page that sent the form, or on one of the form's allowed websites. See [Special fields](/docs/connect/special-fields#_redirect).

## Errors and closed forms

When a browser submit is rejected, the visitor sees a short page with the reason and a link back to your site. When the form is closed, the page says "This form is closed". On Pro you can write your own text for it. See [Pause and close a form](/docs/forms/closing).

## When the team is not on Pro

Custom messages, redirects and `_redirect` only apply while the team is on Pro. If the team moves back to Free, browser submits get the default thank-you page again, and your settings are kept for when you upgrade.
